“Day 1 of working with KPM for an emergency flood in the house due to a pipe breaking. Travis and Evan were on there game!! They worked tirelessly for several hours to start the mitigation of a bathroom and basement, all while explaining to me what they were doing and what was going to be happening moving forward. Let you know how the next couple of days go!! Day 2 Evan and his crew showed up promptly and got right to work accessing their efforts done on day 1. They quickly broke up into groups and were assigned responsibilities. Despite the cold outside and wet conditions they worked with smiles on their faces. Looks like one more day left and we'll see how it goes. Well after some more inspection it looks like additional mitigation. Thorough look was key to uncovering wet sub floors. With that Red and some of the boys began careful removal of cabinets to get at the flooring that needed to come out. Everything that was taken out for future replacement was moved to a dry area of the house and placed behind plastic. One week later and dryers and dehumidifier still running but areas definitely drying out!”

“Having water damage is a miserable experience but the guys at KPM have been incredible all the way through. They showed up the same day we called and have been responsive and thorough with each step of the process. We mainly worked with Dave, Evan and Nate and they were all very communicative, highly professional and very helpful at getting us through this process. Hopefully we’ll never need their services again but if we do, they’d be the first call we would make. We cannot recommend them enough!”

What to Know
Understanding Water Damage
Wells, Septic, and No Public Sewer
The Town of Northumberland's comprehensive plan is direct about it: the hamlets, Gansevoort included, have no public utilities other than streetlights, and most houses draw water from individual wells. That changes the job. A burst line or a failed pressure tank releases clean well water, and we extract it and start structural drying right away. A septic backup is different. It is Category 3 water under IICRC S500, so affected flooring, drywall, and insulation come out, and every surface is cleaned and treated with an EPA-registered antimicrobial before drying starts.
High Groundwater and Wet Basements
Much of Northumberland sits on sandy glacial soils with a seasonally high groundwater table, and the town plan describes the eastern half as having severe development constraints from a high water table. In spring melt or a long rain, that water comes up from below rather than through the roof. We pump out standing water, pull water from carpet and flooring with industrial water extractors, and use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find water in the bottom of walls and under flooring before we set commercial dehumidifiers.
Snook Kill Flooding and Undersized Culverts
The Snook Kill enters Northumberland from Wilton, drops over Big Falls in a ravine northwest of the hamlet, and runs on through Moreau to the Hudson. Both carry FEMA-mapped floodplains. The 2025 Saratoga County hazard mitigation plan ranks flooding a high-risk hazard for the town, lists flood entries for the town in 2006, 2011, 2019, and 2021, and names undersized culverts on Brownville Road and Colebrook Road as projects. On July 29, 2021, flash flooding hit Gansevoort, Wilton, and Moreau the same evening. Stream floodwater entering a house is Category 3 and is cleaned up as contaminated water, not just pumped out.
Frozen Pipes North of Saratoga
Gansevoort winters run cold. The nearest long-term weather station, at Glens Falls Airport, averages about 160 nights a year at or below freezing, and the Saratoga Springs station averages more than five feet of snow. Pipes in exterior walls, garages, and crawlspaces freeze and split, and a well pump keeps feeding the break until someone shuts it off. We stop the source, extract the water, and dry the framing and subfloor so it does not turn into a mold job.
Insurance and Rebuild
We document the loss in Xactimate, the estimating software adjusters use, and work directly with your adjuster. Septic and groundwater losses are often covered differently than a sudden pipe break, so check your policy for a water backup endorsement. For mold after a water loss, see mold remediation in Gansevoort. For fire, sewage cleanup, or full reconstruction, see our Saratoga Springs restoration services. FAQ
Water Damage Restoration in Gansevoort: Common Questions
My Gansevoort home is on a well and septic. Does that change a water damage job?
Yes. Northumberland's hamlets have no public water or sewer, so most homes run on a private well and an on-site septic system. A failed well line or pressure tank is clean water, but a septic backup into the house is Category 3 water under IICRC S500 and gets cleaned and disinfected before drying. We will tell you what we see, but the septic system itself needs a septic contractor.
Why does water keep coming into homes near the Snook Kill?
The Town of Northumberland's comprehensive plan describes sandy soils with a seasonally high groundwater table in the western and central town and a high water table across the eastern half. When spring melt or a heavy storm raises groundwater, below-grade spaces take on water from below. Fixing the drainage is a separate job; our part is extracting the water and drying the structure correctly so it does not turn into mold.
How fast can you get to Gansevoort?
We answer 24/7 and respond within 60 minutes to water emergencies in Gansevoort and the rest of Northumberland. Crews dispatch from our Mechanicville headquarters.
